seasick

Forget what I said about us having no luck at all.
I think our dear lady luck decided to shine her golden rays on us to make up for the other luck-less days.

Probably the best & the most impromptu getaway ever. Had a half conscious conversation at 3am finally deciding on a destination. Woke up some 5 hours later to a change in plans due to a cancelled driving lesson. In order to catch the earliest ferry possible I actually got ready and let the house in a grand total of 20mins!! Gasp, this has to be added to my book of records.

Barely 2 hours later we find ourselves on a boat to Batam. Oh did I mention that someone mistook the last boarding time for the time to start boarding hahhhaha making us the last passengers to board the ferry.

So we practically went from looking at a pretty picture of the Meluar beach to actually being there in the picture in 12 hours. Rented a motorbike from the nicest sweetest lady ever to cross the island to find the beach. Everyone we talked to in Batam were trying to persuade us not to, the roads are dangerous, we would get lost, the beaches were too far away, it's crazy no singaporeans do that, just get a taxi etc. But we made it!!

Despite a couple wrong turns which were easily fixed by a U-turn. We made it to one of the most picturesque scenic places ever. I never knew batam was this pretty and I swear the pictures my blackberry took does it no justice, in fact we spent more time swooning and staring at the scenery than actually taking pictures. Going at 100-130km/h with such beautiful backdrop it almost seemed too good to be true.

Back to the topic of motorbikes. We rented the bike for a whole day at dirt cheap rates. So I had my first experience as a pillion (hhahah damn shiok the wind & all), first time DRIVING the bike (on my own! so. fun. omfg.) andddddddd first time getting into a motorbike accident as well. Basically we were going a little too fast and were trying to make too sharp a turn, so yeah oh and add slippery post-rain roads for the skid factor. But I've got to say we were incredibly lucky to have escape with minimal damage to both ourselves and the bike and the locals were so nice and helpful to us.

Oh yes I'm in love with the locals, they're adorable and so genuinely helpful to us. The lady who rented us the bike called to make sure that we were safe and not lost. Some cute aunty gave us some ointment when E got a sting or something. The guy who sold us ice-cream squeezed his hand to help us dig out the keys when we accidentally locked our keys under the seat. & the whole bunch of uncles who rushed over upon seeing our accident to help up pull the bike to the side and check everything.

Hahhahaha I can barely believe that ALL this happened in a span of say, 8 hours? It's crazy. I'm certain that we were mad. Can't believe what we were thinking. It's a pity that Batam is so notorious for its prostitution and nightlife that no one knows what wonderful things it offers just tucked away in the little corner of the island.

The experience was priceless and so epic, I wouldn't trade it for anything else ever.

The last 3 weeks have made my holidays SO worth it, I can barely believe that I'll be starting my internship in about 2days with a 9-5 desk job for the next 6months.

ps, Really go to stop with the crazy long posts.

pps. OHYA I SAW A BURST OF FIREWORKS FROM USS ON THE FERRY BACK!! I'm a lucky girlllllll.

pps. Look at the state on my 10$ Cotton On sandals hahahhaha. I broke it getting off the bike pretty early in the day. Fixed it with a scrunchie some really nice local gave and it lasted the whole day AND survived the accident. I'm so proud :') Unfortunately his shoe wasn't as sturdy, you can't really see but the soles are totally falling apart.
